What We Do
The Boquillas Commission’s main purpose is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ in words, deeds, and actions.
We are able to spread the Good News of Christ by taking groups of people, mostly families, to Boquillas. These individual families come together monthly to plan, organize, and provide the biblical teaching, construction projects or events that will be taking place during their week stay in Boquillas.
Vacation Bible School
VBS has been an effective way for us to enter the community to create relationships with both the children and parents of Boquillas. In recent years, we have implemented sports camps for the boys, helping us connect with them through soccer and kinetic learning.
Both VBS and our sports camp are ways that the local church congregation can get involved. Many of the VBS teachers are women of the church and the coaches are men from the congregation as well. As we build relationships with the church, we want the church to build relationships within the community.
Youth Nights
During the week of our mission trip, there are multiple nights that are dedicated specifically to youth. Usually beginning with a fun night to dispel any nerves and build trust, the three or so nights are often based around the specific truth that these young people are loved unconditionally by Christ. It’s a truth that we hope to establish in VBS that will carry through as the children of Boquillas get older and for those that have forgotten it is a way to pull the older children back into the fold of Christ’s love and protection.
Using the fun night as a kickstarter, the teenagers of the community feel more comfortable in attending and it allows us to establish relationships that can be built upon throughout the week.
Adult Classes
These teachings are another way for the church congregation and the greater community to come together. Collaborating with our pastoral leadership and the local pastors, we go through multiple nights of teachings that are open to the whole Boquillas community.
Community Projects
By going out and doing work in the community, we are able to build relationships and trust within Boquillas. In the past few years, we have repainted the middle school, built a playground for the elementary school, partnered with town leaders to pave the town streets, provided medical screenings for diabetes and high blood pressure, supplied the local band with new uniforms, provided funding for the local church building and provided college tuition for four students.
